Roussillon – Transformation of an old house

1. The Project & the Clients

After 15 years in their home located in Salaise sur Sanne, France, the clients felt the need to completely reinvent their living space. The areas had never been optimized: old-fashioned furniture, awkward circulation, and dark rooms… Nothing had changed since they moved in. They were ready to undertake a full transformation, both in terms of interior layout and decoration, to create a home that truly reflected their personality—functional and welcoming.

2. The Challenge

To offer a true rebirth to this space without adding partitions, addressing a closed-off, impractical kitchen, a nonexistent entryway, and dark volumes that severely limited natural light flow.

3. The Solution

Complete removal of partitions and arches to open up the space, bring in natural light, and modernize the overall ambiance.
Full inversion of the dining room and kitchen: this reorganization made both spaces function much better.
In the living room, installation of a large 6-seat corner sofa and a custom-made TV unit, now positioned much closer to improve comfort and sociability. Acoustic panels were added behind the TV unit for optimal sound comfort.
In the new dining area, a large 3-meter table was installed, able to seat up to 12 people—perfect for family gatherings or entertaining friends.
Open kitchen centered around an island that can accommodate 4 people, with an integrated wine cellar, as requested by the clients.
Custom-built furniture created under the staircase, combining a console space and a closet for coats and shoes to compensate for the lack of an entryway.
Complete refurbishment of the staircase to modernize it and harmonize the overall design.
Enhancement of a stone wall through a backlit arch that showcases cherished memories and decorative objects of the clients.

4. The Transformation

A gentle yet profound transformation: more light, more space, more life. Today, the house tells a new story—one that faithfully reflects the personality and lifestyle of its inhabitants, where modernity and authenticity beautifully intertwine.
